Our Poetry Circle has been meeting and discussing poetry in New York City since 2018. We meet quarterly at the Brooklyn Heights Public Library, where we discuss poetry books and also invite guest poets to talk with us and read their work live. This event’s program was a discussion of the book The Moon That Turns You Back by Hala Alyan. Alyan is the author of the novel Salt Houses, winner of the Dayton Literary Peace Prize and the Arab American Book Award and a finalist for the Chautauqua Prize. She lives in Brooklyn, New York, with her husband, where she works as a clinical psychologist.

This event’s program was a discussion of the book View with a Grain of Sand by Wislawa Szymborska. Symborska was a Polish poet, poetry editor, translator, and columnist. She was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1996.

The evening’s program was a discussion of the book The Curious Thing by Sandra Lim. Lim was born in Seoul, South Korea, and is the author of three poetry collections. The evening’s program was a discussion of the book Broken Color by Dean Kostos. Kostos was an award-winning poet who was a founder of the Greek-American Writers’ Association and author of eight books, as well as the editor of Pomegranate Seeds, an anthology of Greek-American poetry.
